Instruction

This assignment offers a valuable opportunity for each student to apply major concepts and ethical approaches in analyzing business ethical issues. Your task is to select a recent business scandal or significant business issue for thorough analysis. There are no restrictions on the region in which the cases occurred. However, preference should be given to cases from the past five years.

This individual assessment will require you to submit a take-home essay with a minimum of 1500 words. It is important to note that this is an individual assignment, and therefore, discussions among students are NOT encouraged.

Major content to be included in the Take-Home Individual Assessment:

Cover page (key information to include):

Case Title, Student Name, Student no.

Analysis:

I. Background information with detailed description of the case

II. Major ethical issue identified and to be discussed

III. Stakeholder analysis

Identify the key stakeholders, with brief explanations regarding why you identify them as key stakeholders

IV. Moral Reasoning Process

Part (1) Moral reasoning with moral standards: Select one (or multiple, if applicable) relevant moral standard(s), apply the moral reasoning process. If you believe that the moral standard you wish to select may be controversial, you can utilize the six characteristics of a moral standard to assess whether and why the behavioral norm you have chosen can be established as a moral standard.

Part (2) Moral reasoning with major ethical approaches:

Analyze the case by applying the major ethical approaches:

1. Utilitarian approach

2. Rights approach

Note: Each case must be analyzed using both approaches.

IV Make an overall conclusion

What is your overall evaluation of the case or people’s final solution to the involved issue based on these approaches?

V  Recommendations

What good/bad lessons can be learnt from this case? How could people handle similar cases in the future?

Special Requirements for the Take-Home Individual Assessment:

- Word limit: no less than 1500 words.

- Font: Times New Roman, 12pt.

- Citation format: APA style.

Focus of Evaluations:

· Comprehension of all the relevant concepts.

· Application of concepts to the problem posed.

· Extent to which ideas are expressed logically, accurately and clearly.

Submission Deadline:

Submission of the Take-home Individual Assessment should be no later than 5pm, 17 April, 2025.

1. How should the case be selected?

- The case should be selected following the same criteria for the group presentation (detailed as below):

- Cases for the take-home individual assessment should not be the same with any final group presentations or your group’s previous presentation. Please refer to the Moodle forum to verify that your chosen case has not been selected by other groups for their presentations.

-Please focus on cases in the business field. Cases that lead to discussions of ethical issues in religion, politics, culture or other non-business domains are not eligible to be selected. Topics that might invoke controversies due to different religions or political ideologies should also be avoided.

- Please avoid plagiarism and submit your original work.

- Please indicate your usage of the AI tools in your work following the university’s guidelines.
